I think this is good for the industry, so I'm helping Myles promote it.
Be sure to check out the rich data and results from last year's survey below.

Over 1,150 SEOs took part in BrightLocal's 2012 Local SEO Industry Survey.

Excited to announce the survey is back! Click here for the 2013 survey.

Understanding our Industry

The objective of the survey is to gain a clear understanding of the health & nature of the Local SEO industry. We will publicly share the results so everyone in our industry can benefit from the findings. The survey explores the following topics -

Annual turnover

Services & Prices

Sales & new business

Daily SEO tasks ('likes' & 'hates')

Client performance

Benchmark yourself against your peers

Have you ever wondered how your business compares to your peers & competitors?

Do you offer the same services?

Do you earn more/less per customer?

Do you outsource as much work as other SEOs?

Do other SEOs find citation submissions as much of a chore as you do?

Taking part in the survey will give you answers to these questions. The more SEOs who take part will ensure that the results will be as useful as possible, and provide an accurate picture of the industry. Also, we'll give you access to the results before the wider public sees them, so you will be the first to know!

Confidential and Anonymous

All survey questions are optional. All results are aggregated, and individual responses will never be made public. Heck, you don't even need to give us your name if you don't want to (we only ask for it so that we can email you when the results are ready)

What are you waiting for? Weigh in! :)

Hi Linda

Thanks for promoting this - much appreciated!

I'm happy to answer any questions from your network. We've had 300 entries on day 1 so going well so far. But the more entrants we get the more robust the data.

So come on guys - get involved!!

Thanks

Myles

Thanks Myles,

Hopefully more will get involved and weigh in. I'll Tweet it again now to try to catch the evening crowd.

Thanks, Linda. We use Myles for several of his services. He does quality work and adds a lot to the space.

It was humbling, but I did it. And glad I did. I think it helped me to focus on what our goals are, where we are in reaching them and where our priorities are now and should be. I'm looking forward to the results to gauge where we are in relation to the rest of the herd.

There are two major factors that help make our work (and life) easier:
1) Linda Buquet, her big heart, dedication and solid advice and;
2) Myles Anderson and Bright Local that offers "locals" like me some awesome tools, though I'm just scratching the surface at this point.

Awww Jim, you seriously just made me tear up a little.
I work for guys like you and you make everything I do feel more worthwhile!

The finding from Question No. 4 of last year's survey appears to be somewhat inconsistent with the reality of many (most?) of the people in this forum:

4. New Business: 46% of local SEOs claim that they do not actively seek new clients

It appears that new business is not hard to come by for local SEOs.

Ken: Granted, 46% is not 86%, but still. :)
