Just 2 days back Google added lots of additional resources for webmasters in its "How Search Works" page. They have added many additional contents in the crawling section of the page, just adding few points below-
  • Google crawls and analyzes textual, non-textual content as well as overall visual layout of a page to decide about its search appearance.
  • Websites with less than 1000 pages don't need to create sitemap, Google can crawl the pages of these sites from the home page. They just need to use proper navigation system so that Google bot could access all their pages starting fro the home page.
  • Google is using primary crawler as well as secondary crawler for a website which can be either desktop crawler or mobile crawler. For all new sites, mobile crawler is their primary crawler. Google also crawls few pages with secondary crawler.

All the new contents in the "How Google Search Works" page is in red mark.

It's nice that you highlighted the new sections. Having participated in many discussions with John Mueller and Martin Splitt, many who have been asking questions will benefit from these additions. Thank you.
