Client has taken over a practice from a previous doctor. Previous doctor is no longer affiliated with the practice at all. For all intents and purposes it's a new practice utilizing an existing practice name. What course of action is there to have the old, very negative reviews of the previous doctor/owner removed? Is it only possible to flag the reviews and submit an appeal if denied?

Originally thought of having the new doctor/staff respond and explain the previous doctor is no longer affiliated — but worried that could cause more resentment in previous patients (by opening old wounds so-to-speak) and also, most of the negative reviews are more than 2 years old.

Is it better to just 'close' the old listing and start a new listing? (but that would probably cause a merge of the two profiles, right?)

I would start by contacting support and asking. I find these scenarios get handled on a case by case basis. You could also try posting at the GBP Forum if support is unhelpful.
