Hey all,
So I've updated maybe a few thousand business names on Google over the years and was hit with something I've never seen before this morning. This business was sold and so it underwent a big name change of Designs by Vogt's to Franny's Flowers. The phone number, address, and website are all unchanged—the new owner just wanted to update the name and that's it.
In GBP, when I try to make the update to the name, it gets rejected immediately and I get an email within 60 seconds that says "A recent information edit was rejected. You can't make the following edits because content that violates our policies isn't allowed. Violated Policy: Business Identity Changed".
Surely Google isn't going the route of Apple and Bing, where they want you to close the existing GBP and create a brand new one for something that is a simple NAP change? I'm assuming it's their system being over-corrective, but there is a field on the Google Business Guidelines in the Eligibility section for "Identity Change" that I've not noticed before so I wasn't sure if it was something new or I've just not noticed that before.
The listing is live and has no issues, the edit simply won't go through. Haven't talked to GBP Support yet; wanted to ask here first.
