Perhaps indirectly because of the GBP reviews appearing on the LSA profile. But nothing that would be a direct ranking factor.

Right, that's more or less what we shared...we don't really consider GBP reviews part of SEO or Local SEO, but that's more or less semantics.

I loathe come across claims like this...it's maddening.
