New Apple Maps subdirectory?

Any idea why Apple Maps pages are accessible here?
site:maps.apple.com/place

I've only known of two ways to pull up an aMaps page: through the Apple Maps app (duh), and at mapsconnect.apple.com.

Only about 1500 listings indexed under maps.apple.com/place. The oldest seem to be from early 2018.

Have you seen this before?

I have only used the two ways you described, but would love an easier way to access their location data. The Google search results page shows 1500+ results, but none show up past the first few pages of results.

Thanks, @Rich Owings! The odd thing is some seemingly random businesses (not legendary businesses or "destinations") have those pages, too.
